The school district was created in 1953, two years before Oak Creek was incorporated as a city. The district boundaries remained in place as the two cities developed and grew into what they are today. You can learn more about where the district includes Franklin in this guide to the district's attendance areas.
Early on in the formation of our committee meetings, someone would ask the inevitable question, "Why can't we just give our Franklin students to the Franklin School District? Wouldn't that save us money?"
While that makes sense from a geographical point of view, the financial costs would be devastating. Franklin students account for only 8% of our student population whereas 16% of the district's revenue comes from Franklin property taxes. The businesses on the west side of 27th Street play an important role in boosting that revenue, so take that into consideration when you plan your next meal out. Mulligan's, anyone?
